Why do I need a Doula?

A doula is an advocate for a woman's desire for birth.  Though every birth is different and every woman has different ideas of the perfect birth, the doula is there to support the mother.  Doulas complete the birthing process by supporting the laboring woman and partner.

The doula can suggest postion changes and offer numerous comfort techniques rather than rely upon medications and interventions if the mother desires an unmedicated birth.

The Doula also allows the father the opportunity to leave the bedside for a quick break for meals and rest while the Doula continues to support the laboring woman.

Doulas have been shown to:

*reduce cesearean rates

*decrease medical interventions

*decrease medical inductions

*decrease medication use

*improve perception of the birth

*reduce the length of labor
